Mars (Ares)

*God of Agriculture

*God of War

....**Father of Romulus & Remus, the founders of Rome

~~~~~~~~~~~~
...The Roman god Mars is identified with the Greek god Ares. The Roman myth of the love of Mars and Venus was based on Homer's accounts of the intrigue between Aphrodite and Ares. Mars was the son of Juno, just as Ares was the son of Hera. In a passage of Ovid, Juno conceived Mars without Jupiter's aid, using a flower with fertile properties which Flora obtained for her. Mars' adventure with Anna Perenna is one of the genuinely Italian elements in his mythology.
... In the Classical period Mars appeared in Rome as a god of war and agriculture. Mars supposedly guided the young to emigrate from the Sabine cities to found new towns. The Sabine’s used to consecrate to Mars a whole age-group of young people who emigrated, guided on their way by a woodpecker or wolf (both were dedicated to Mars). The she-wolf also plays a part in the legend of earliest Rome. Mars was the father of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, and their mother was Rhea Silvia. The twins were abandoned on the Palatine, nursed by a she-wolf and sheltered by shepherds. Hence the twins are often called "The Children of the Wolf" or the "Children of Mars".
...Other people besides the Romans were supposedly descended from the god; the Marsians, the Marrucians, the Mamertines and others whose names indicated their connection with the god.
